Some of you may remember a time โ roughly twenty years ago โ when blogs were a thing and, of course, I had one. That chapter closed quietly (and I won’t tell you the name of that former blog). Yet in the times of AI, automated text, and tiptoeing around microblogs to avoid conflict, it seems about right to go back to lengthier reflections and rants.
I’m reopening this space to share academic and political reflections, though I promise not to take any of it too seriously. After all, if I have survived in academia it has been thanks to a good dose of humour and other legal substances (mostly coffee and craft beer).
To kick things off, I’m sharing my first GitHub repository โ built with the assistance of Claude โ which tries to answer a question that came up over lunch at my faculty the other day: is this Pope really as progressive as people say? And if so, by what criteria, and compared to whom? At the same time, it sort of aims at pissing off this otherwise cool Pope, as apparently he despises AI even more than I do.
The corpus is, I’ll admit, minimal. The question is not. Have a look:
More to come. Probably.
